Prof (Dr) Ricky Lee, Intellectual Forum Senior Research Associate, Jesus College, University of Cambridge and Principal Research Fellow, North American Space Institute conducted a certificate course on Air and Space Law (Feb14-15, 2023) as part of International Teaching Month at the Institute. The two-day course was divided into two sessions on International Space Law and Air Law. He dealt with the historical background, origin and development of the space law regime. Professor Lee discussed the international law aspects with respect to space law, common heritage of mankind and the various conventions under the treaty as a source of law. The session discussed the Outer Space Treaty, Liability Regime, Registration of Astronauts and discussed the various levels of challenges with respect to the implementation of the conventions by the two blocks of USSR and America. He also deliberated on International Air Law which deals with international carriage liability, the domestic and the international laws to be followed during air-transit from one country to another. The session discussed the various real-life and virtual incidents that governs the airspace of a country and how sovereignty and jurisdiction play an important role in governing and regulation of the same.
