A distinguished lecture on the theme: “Fraternity: Foundational Fabric of Constitution of India” was organized at the Institute of Law, Nirma University on March 25, 2023. The lecture by delivered by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Judge-Supreme Court of India. The session was conducted as part of International Conference on Right to Equality: Contemporary Challenges (25-26 March, 2023). Shri KK Patel, Vice President-Nirma University, Dr Anup K Singh, Director General– Nirma University were the other esteemed dignitaries at the event.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dinesh Maheshwari spoke elaborately on the idea of ‘Fraternity’ as enshrined in the constitution. He highlighted the vision of founding fathers of the Indian constitution by referring to the terms- “We, the people, all its citizens, Justice, Liberty, Equality, promote among all- Fraternity, give to ourselves” He stressed on the ideals and the importance of brotherhood among people as envisioned in the constitution. He also referred to Article 51A of the constitution dealing with Fundamental Duties, specifically the duty to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic and regional or sectional diversities.
Earlier, Prof (Dr) Madhuri Parikh- Dean and Director (I/c), Institute of Law delivered the welcome address. She stated that the 2-day conference is aimed to initiate new discourses and continue the existing conversations on the furtherance of right to equality, especially in the light of the contemporary developments across jurisdictions.
The international conference is coordinated by Prof. Abhas Srivastava and Prof. Sukrit Garg, Assistant Professor’s at the institute. Prof. Sukrit Garg delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Niharika was the anchor at the event.
