An Expert Lecture on “Frauds in the Indian Capital Market: A Legal Perspective” was organised at the Institute of Law, Nirma University on November 16th, 2024. Senior Advocate Ms. Dharmistha Raval, an esteemed practicing lawyer and Executive Director (Legal) SEBI (Retd.) was the resource person at the session. She discussed several landmark cases highlighting SEBI’s role in market regulation. She discussed Harshad Mehta case and Ketan Parekh case that exposed significant loopholes in market practices. The Samira Pyramid Company case further underscored the importance of regulatory vigilance. Cases such as PAN Asia Developers also brought insider trading into focus. She further talked about SEBI’s proactive role in ensuring transparency and accountability in the securities market creating a safer environment for investors. The session was organised as a part of the clinical aspects of the Financial System and Frauds course. Prof. Dipti Deshpande Assistant Professor at the Institute coordinated the session.
