The Legal Aid Committee, at Institute of Law, Nirma University organised a Seminar on Matrimonial Issues Relating to NRIs to raise awareness about legal, social, and cyber challenges in NRI marriages on November 17, 2025. The event was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Justice Dr. Kaushal J. Thaker, Hon’ble Chairperson, Gujarat State Human Rights Commission; Former Judge, Hon’ble Gujarat High Court & Allahabad High Court, Advocate Dhwani Lakhani, Practicing Advocate, Gujarat High Court and Prof. (Dr.) Madhuri Parikh, Director and Dean, Institute of Law, Nirma University.
The speakers highlighted caution in NRI marriages, the importance of child welfare, and the need for emotional stability and due diligence. Legal issues like jurisdiction, fraud, and rights enforcement were discussed.
Additionally, the cybercrime officers addressed rising online frauds on matrimonial platforms, stressing identity verification, digital safety, strong passwords, and quick reporting of cyber frauds to helpline 1930.
The seminar strengthened the Legal Aid Committee’s mission of promoting legal awareness and social responsibility within the community.
