The Institute of Law, Nirma University adheres to an appropriate pedagogy, blending together the dissemination of knowledge, inculcation of values and nurturing of skills required for the legal profession. Keeping this ideology in mind, the academic culture at the Institute provides hosts of simulation exercises to hone these skills and carve out the vital simulative exercises in this area that help the students to develop the skills of legal research; application of law, critical thinking, argumentation, effective communication and collaborative learning. So the Institute has been emphasizing mooting activities, providing vast opportunities and exposure to the students.
The Institute provides innumerable opportunities for participating in National, International events like seminars, moot courts etc. The Institute has a state-of-the art Moot Court Hall which is equipped with all the modern facilities to give a real life experience of mooting to the students. Students enthusiastically participate and have brought laurels in prestigious National and International Moot Court Competitions.
The Institute also has a well-defined moot policy, guiding the students for the participation in national and international moots. The students are sent to compete in the national and international level competition after a selection procedure at the institute level. Students are provided with intensive training by trained coaches. The Institute provides financial support to the students for their national and international participation.
Award of Excellence for contribution in Social Justice
Legal Aid Clinic of the Institute of Law, Nirma University received the Award of Excellence for contribution in Social Justice and Legal Aid at the 3rd National Conference on Human Rights & Gender Justice 2018 at Indian Law Institute, New Delhi on 23rd June 2018.
Selected for IP Hall of the Fame-IP Institute of the Year
Institute of Law, Nirma University was selected as IP Campus of the Year (Legal) for its outstanding contribution in the field of Intellectual Property at the IP-Hall of Fame Honours, held on July 14, 2017, at Hyatt Regency, Ahmedabad. Prof.(Dr.) Purvi Pokhariyal, Director, Institute of Law, Nirma University attended the function and received the honour on behalf of the Institute.

Institute of Law, Nirma University received the ‘Best Law Education Institute’ under Goodwill Brands Awards in the category of best legal education in the country in a Symposium -Thought of Leadership Champions Change hosted by Herald Global. The event was organized by ERTC Media on July 19, 2017, at Hotel Sahara One in Mumbai.

The team comprising Shruti Verma, Anusha Shekhawat and Deepak Singh Jadoun were adjudged as winners of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) Moot Court Competition (India rounds), 2019 held at CSI College for Legal Studies, Kerala from 12th-13th January, 2019. The team also won the citation for the Second Best Memorial. The team will now represent India in the Sixteenth Commonwealth Moot, 2019 to be held in conjunction with the 21st Commonwealth Law Conference in Zambia in April 2019.
The team comprising Aarushi Kasliwal, Vaibhav Singh and Shivi Shrivastava won the prestigious ever rolling trophy of Adv TS Venkateshwara for the Best Memorial. Aarushi Kasliwal was bestowed with the award for the Best Female Advocate and Best Student Advocate. Vaibhav Singh was awarded the Best Male Advocate prize and Shivi Shrivastava was awarded with the 2nd Best Researcher prize in XIX All India Moot Court Competition 2019. The competition was organized by GLC Ernakulum from 25th-27th January, 2019

The team Comprising of Parth Tiwari, Juhi Hirani, and Naman Maheshwari were adjudged as Quarter–Finalist at the NLU Jodhpur-Antitrust Moot Court Competition, 2019. Juhi Hirani was also adjudged as the Best Speaker in the competition. The competition was held on 15th-17th March, 2019.
The team comprising Chahat Mangtani, Tamanna Sharma & Anjali Jhawar won the Best Memorial in the 8th Amity International Moot Court Competition 2018, held in Amity Law School, Noida from 12th October – 13th October, 2018. The valedictory ceremony of the competition was attended by the former Chief Justice of India, Mr Dipak Misra.
The team comprising Rajat Sinha, Vatsal Patel & Anuj Bajaj stood as Quarter-finalists in the 12th BR Sawhny Moot Court Competition, 2018 held from 12th October – 14th October, 2018 in NALSAR, Hyderabad. The team also won the 2nd Best Memorial Award and Anuj Bajaj also won the Best Researcher Award.
The team comprising Sristi Gautam, Saurabh Pancholi, Chitransh Sharma and Kajal Singh qualified for Prof N R Madhava Menon SAARC LAW Moot Court Competition – International Rounds. The qualifying rounds of the said competition were organized by Lloyd Law College, Noida from 26th October – 28th October, 2018.
The team comprising Jaya Singh, Mansi Singh, Soma Silpa Swain and Namit Jain qualified for the world rounds of the 23rd Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition, 2019 by securing a place in the Semi Finals of the Surana and Surana India National Rounds, 2018. The India National Rounds were organized by Jindal Global Law School, Sonipat, Haryana, from 23rd November–25th November, 2018.
The team comprising Palak Jain of 2nd year, Shubhsmita of 2nd year and Bhavya Sharma of 4th year were adjudged as runners-up at 4th National Moot Court Competition organized by Rajeev Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSoIPL) from 31st August to 02nd September, 2018.
The team comprising Rishabh Jain, Shipra Sayal and Shubham Gupta, all of 3rd year were adjudged as the winners of the Best Memorial Award at the 4th GNLU Moot on Securities and Investment Law, 2018 held at Gujarat National Law University from 06th to 09th September, 2018.
The team comprising Navya Singh, Kulsoom Farhat Khan and Vinisha Jain, all of 2nd year, were adjudged as Quarter Finalists at the 18 Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition, 2018. Navya Singh was also adjudged as the Best Advocate at the same tournament. The tournament was jointly organized by the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL) and International Committee of the Red Cross, New Delhi from 13th to 16th
September, 2018.
The team comprising Piyush Swami, Rishabh Rela and Jaya Singh represented ILNU in the 14th Nani Palkhiwala Tax Moot Court Competition, 2018 organized by School of Law, Sastra Deemed to be University, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu and declared the WINNERS. Ms. Jaya Singh adjudicated as the Second Best Speaker in the Competition.
Neti Jhatakia, Karan Parihar, Utkarsha Sharma and Sakhi Shah has achieved ELSA WTO Moot Court Competition, Bangkok, Thailand
Devashish Trivedi (Batch 2015) at the 40th World Universities Debate Championship (WUDC) 2020 in Bangkok, Thailand. Devashish defied convention to secure an Open Break as an Adjudicator, becoming one among a handful of Indian debators to secure a break in the 40 year old history of the Championship.
Subham Krishna Borah was the 3rd Best Adjudicator at the Punjab Engineering College Asian Parliamentary Debate, Chandigarh. A total of 110 adjudicators competed against each other.
Devashish Trivedi declared Best Adjudicator at the competition, Jahnavi Pandey and Nivedita Singh of first year, qualified for the Novice Semi Finals. Prakshi Singh qualified for the Reserved Novice Semi Finals.
Devashish Trivedi and Shubham Borah secured adjudicator break-ins at the 12th Annual Hansraj Debate i.e. ‘Shanti’ which was held at Hansraj College, Delhi in February, 2019. The format of the debate was a parliamentary debate and saw the top law colleges of India competing in it. Shubham Borah became a finals judge and was among the top 5 adjudicators of the tournament.
Adhirath Chaudhary of 2nd year broke as an adjudicator at the Symbiosis Law School- Parliamentary Debate, 2018 conducted by Symbiosis Law School, Pune on 17th to 19th August, 2018.
Toshit Godara of 4th year and Shubham Borah of 3rd year were adjudged as finalists at the IIM Indore Inter-Varsity Debate. Toshit was also adjudged as the second best speaker. Also, Gahna Rajani and Kush Dubey of 1st year made it to the semifinals at the same tournament and Devashish Trivedi of 4th year was declared as the Best Adjudicator at the same tournament. The tournament was held from 07th to 09th September, 2018.
Devashish Trivedi clinched another break in as an adjudicator at the NMIMS Parliamentary Debate Tournament, 2018. He was among the seven adjudicators who judged the finals. Palash, a first year student also clinched an adjudicator break at the same tournament.
Akshit Mishra, a first year student, secured a break in as an adjudicator at the UPES Parliamentary Debate Tournament, 2018.
Devashish Trivedi broke in as an adjudicator at the BITS Goa Parliamentary Debate Tournament, 2018. He also secured the 2nd Best Adjudicator award at the tournament. Ramit Singh also secured an adjudicator break at the said competition

Vishal Singh, 4th year student, secured Second Position in FICCI’s Quiz on Intellectual Property Law organized by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. He also bagged second position in First National Intellectual Property Rights Quiz Competition organized by Enhelion Knowledge Ventures and Scriboard Advocates and Legal Consultants. He went on to achieve secure a position amongst the Top 10 in MERAKI Intellectual Property Rights Essay Competition organized by IDIA, Anand & Anand and Institute of Law, Nirma University.
The team comprising Amitosh Dubey, Harsh Garg, Aditi Bhardwaj, and Ishita Nagori secured the first position in the Skit Competition in NUZEAL held on February 05, 2019.
The team comprising Adesh Mishra, Tanya Agrawal, Harshita Khare, Shubhankar Das, Vineet Tayal, Sarthak Chauhan, Ashok Kumar, Raghvendra Pathak, Chinmay Singh Tanwar, Makrand Sharma, Arghya Samaddar bagged the Best One Act Play award at the One Act Play Competition organized by Institute of Commerce, Nirma University on February 13, 2019. Sarthak Chauhan also won the award for the Best Actor.
Chinmay Singh Tanwar won the Best Director award and his team was adjudged as the third runner up in the One Act Play competition organized by Yuva Art Foundation in Gandhinagar, held on March 16, 2019. The team performed the play Junko: The pure hearted, which was written and directed by Chinmay Tanwar himself.
Praveer Sharma won 2 gold medals, one for performing the best senior duties at camp and another for winning inter battalion public speaking and debate competition at the NCC camp.
In the Short Film Competition organized by Department of Design, Nirma University, the team comprising Rishiraj Pandey, Sarthak Chauhan, Tanya Aggarwala and Vineet Tayal secured the 3rd position. Their play was titled ‘Pratyaksha’. The competition was held on 03rd November, 2018.
The team comprising Yash Mittal and Ritesh Goyal were adjudged winners of Law Learners 5th National Law Quiz Competition, 2018 organized in association with Legal Desire. The quiz was conducted from 29th November – 1st December, 2018 having two preliminary rounds comprising 30 questions and a Final Round comprising 40 questions. The team secured 1st position out of 240 participants and has won Gift Hampers worth ₹10,000/-.
Institute’s Football Team, won the Inter Institute Football Tournament as a part of the Sports Festival, 2018, Nirma University. The team beat the football team from Institute of Technology, Nirma University by a margin of 2-1 to secure a win in the finals.
NCC Cadets Aniket Rathore, Manav Patel, Guru Siradhana and Umang Sethi, all of 2nd year, won 5 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Medal in the Inter battalion Quiz, Debate and in the Shooting Competition held at the NCC Headquarters, Ahmedabad on 22 August, 2018.
The Nirma University Basketball Team comprising Krishan Mohan, Captain, of 5th year and Utkarsh Mishra of 3rd year from Institute of Law, Nirma University stood as runners-up at the IIM Ahmedabad sporting festival Shaurya 2018. The fest was held from 20th to 23th September, 2018.
The blog titled “Equality of Arms: Difference in Interpretations of the ad hoc Tribunals and European Court of Human Rights” which has been published by Cambridge International Law Journal.
Co-authored an article this summer on ‘Sabka Vishwas (legacy dispute resolution scheme, 2019’ which was introduced in the Finance Act (No. 2), 2019 and the same has been published on TAXMANN website as well as the their latest edition of CPT magazine ([2019] 109 taxmann.com 160 (Article)/[2019] 46 CPT 13 (Article)).
