International Seminar on Global Law Learning

An “International Seminar on Global Law Learning” was held here at Institute of Law, Nirma University. The seminar was graced by the presence of various foreign academic luminaries:  Prof. Stephen Barnes, Assistant Dean for Graduate and International Law, Penn State Law, USA,  Prof. Letlhokwa Mpedi, Executive Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Johannesburg, South Africa, Judge Mel Flanagan Former Circuit Judge & Adjunct Professor, University of Wisconsin, USA, Prof. Adam Dubin, Professor Faculty of Law, Comillas Ponitfical University, Faculty of Law, Comillas Pontifical University Madrid, Spain and Dr.VenkatIyer, Professor and Head School of Law, Ulster University, United Kingdom. Also gracing the occasion was Prof. (Dr). S Shanthakumar, Director- Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar.

The esteemed guests highlighted the significance Global Law learning and stressed on the need for collaboration amongst universities at the International level. They enlightened the students with the idea of Student and faculty exchange programs and joint researches being undertaken. They insisted on the skill set required for 21st century for which there needs to be greater independence and interdependence. This stems from the fact that the world today is a global village where people of different regions face similar obstacles, being at the cusp of ideological and political shifts. They also stressed on the need for capacity building in educational arena. They also informed the students about various scholarships programs available for various courses at different universities. The event also saw the release of brochure of Internationalization@ILNU.

Earlier, Prof. (Dr). Purvi Pohariyal, Director and Dean, Institute of Law, delivered the welcome address. She informed that through internationalisation, the Institute has created a platform for collaboration of professors and thinkers from all over the world, coming from different walks of life. It gives the students an opportunity to interact and learn from faculty who are the best in their field. Today, more than ever there is a fundamental need for people of diverse backgrounds to come together and share their experiences and ideas.

The institute is celebrating its second International Teaching Month in the month of February 2020. This teaching month is marking a way towards international excellence, inviting professors, deans from the leading foreign universities and law schools. The Institute celebrated its first International Teaching month in the month of March 2019.  Last year too, faculty members from various leading foreign universities visited the Institute and taught different courses covering various facets of law.
