Criminal Law and Justice

The centre aims to advance knowledge on the administration of justice and on the nature of criminal behavior. It aims to bring various stakeholders like academicians, policy planners, officials, programme administrators, representatives of civil society, NGOs, media, social and development activists and practitioners to debate and discuss about criminal law and justice and inclusive development: issues, challenges and social work perspective. The centre attempts to engage these issues theoretically as well as empirically.

The main motive behind the centre is to provide the students not only legal education but they should be given exposure to the society to understand the laws and the bottlenecks in implementation. The centre also aims at initiating programs which advances the research capabilities of the student and the same will be given consideration by the centre. Every activity of centre will be learning process for the members indulged in it, as well as the students of the university at large in the form of lectures, panel discussion etc.

  • To promote independent thinking, learning and presentation of thoughts.
  • To endorse skills that is needed both to enhance personal skills and to facilitate social engagement.
  • To provide a platform for interaction of students with Criminal Law experts on various Criminal Law related topics.
  • To conduct Empirical research on different topics regarding the administration of criminal justice.
  • To publish Journal / Edited Book containing original and primary research works by the faculty and students.
  • An Online Group Discussion on “Adolescence-Netflix” is scheduled for 20th December, 2025, with Mr. Nitesh Choudhary as the main speaker and the Institute of Law students as the discussants. This interactive discussion will explore how Netflix portrays adolescence, crime, and behavioural patterns in youth-centric shows. The Adolescence series focuses on teenagers navigating identity, friendships, peer pressure, family conflicts, and the emotional turbulence of growing up. Such shows often highlight issues like bullying, social media influence, risky behaviour, trauma, and early exposure to crime or violence. Mr. Nitesh Choudhary will guide students in analysing how these themes are depicted, the psychological and social impact of such portrayals, and the legal or ethical questions they raise within the broader framework of criminal law and juvenile justice.
  • Online Quiz Competition “Pop Culture and Crime” on 3rd January, 2026 for the students of the Institute of Law An entertaining yet intellectually engaging quiz testing students’ knowledge of how crime is represented in movies, series, music, and global pop culture. The aim is to help students identify the intersection between popular media narratives and real-world criminal law concepts.
  • Discussion on two prominent criminal cases, the criminals, punishments and proceedings during 16th-17th January, 2026 for the students of the Institute. A two-day analytical session where students will examine major Indian and international criminal cases, including offenders, motives, punishments, and procedural history. The event encourages critical thinking on investigative failures, media trials, judicial reasoning, and criminological perspectives. The event is based on but not limited to, the Arushi Talwar case, Ted Bundy, Charles Shobhraj, Nithari Murders, Nirbhaya case, Jessica Lal Murder and the 1992 Ajmer Rape Racket
  • 24th January, 2026- Online Quiz Competition “Crime and Punishment” for the students of the Institute on 24th January, 2026. A knowledge-based quiz focusing on criminal offences, landmark judgements, sentencing principles, and comparative punishment systems. It aims to strengthen students’ understanding of substantive and procedural criminal law in an engaging, competitive format.
