Ninth International (Virtual) Conference on International Humanitarian Law and Refugee Law (January 13, 2021)

The Centre for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Institute of Law, Nirma University hosted the inaugural ceremony of its Flagship Conference, Ninth International (Virtual) Conference on International Humanitarian Law and Refugee Law on January 13, 2021.

International Symposium on ‘Educating Future Lawyers for Just & Sustainable Society’ (February 8-9, 2021)

The Institute of Law, Nirma University in association with South Asia Network for Justice Education (SANJE) organised an international symposium on ‘Educating Future Lawyers for Just & Sustainable Society’, on February 8-9, 2021. The symposium focused on needs for social justice and ‘Justice for All’, the SDG 16.

On the first day (February 8, 2021), a panel of five speakers (two from USA and three from India) presented thoughts on role of performing arts for promoting social justice based on their life and work experiences. On the second day (February 9, 2021), a panel of five speakers (one from USA and four from India) presented thoughts on ‘Clinical Legal Education’ (CLE) and its linkages with ‘relational lawyering’, ‘New Education Policy’ (NEP), ‘Education 4.0’, and SDG 16 based on their life and work experiences.

International Conference (Virtual) on Law Language Literature: Dialogic Interfaces (March 23-24, 2021)

The Institute of Law, Nirma University organized a two-day virtual international conference on ‘Law, Language, and Literature: Dialogic Interfaces’ on March 23-24, 2021. In eight sessions, twenty six scholars presented their papers, with their topics varying from purpose of teaching literature to law students, choice of texts, classroom techniques, pedagogical tools and innovations in textual interpretations to make literary studies relevant to legal scholars.

International Virtual Conference on ‘Sports and Law’ (March 5-6, 2021)

The Institute organized its first International (Virtual) Conference on ‘Sports and Law’ on March 5-6, 2021 at the Institute. Several eminent speakers covered different aspects of Sports and legal regime, i.e. Global Sports Law for Indian Sport, Sports persons and Constitution- The Doping Dilemma, Image Rights and Sports, Nuances of Contracting in Sports, The Power of Sport: A story of $250+ Billion Sports Brand, Anti-Doping Regulations in Sports, Gender Issues in Sports: The Dutee Chand’s Case Study, Fantasy Sports and Legal Regulations in India and Risk Insulations in Sports Contracts- A Trans-legal experience. These themes touched upon various facets that control the whole gamut of sports across jurisdictions.

A Panel Discussion on the topic ‘Arbitration Panel – ISDS Reform Regime Interaction’ was delivered on February 25, 2021 by Prof Katarina Chovancova, (Professor of International Law Institute of State and Law Slovak Academy of Science, Slovakia), Prof Crina Baltag (Senior Lecturer and Arbitrator, International Arbitration, Stockholm University, Sweden), Mr Bruno Gustafsson (Attorney, Litigation Department Roschier Attorney, Stockholm, Sweden), Dr Kabir Duggal (Attorney, Arnold and Porter New York, USA), Mr Ylli Dautaj (Visiting Professor, Uppsala University, Sweden).
