The Literary Committee of the Institute of Law, Nirma University (ILNU) organized a discussion on “Naya Qanoon” by Saadat Hasan Manto on 29th September 2025. The session focused on Manto’s thought-provoking short story “Naya Qanoon” (نیا قانون), which translates to “New Constitution.” Students actively participated in engaging and insightful discussions, debating themes such as rationality, law, crime, capitalism, colonialism, authority, and ignorance as depicted in the story.
The discussion was student-moderated, led by the Committee’s Chairperson, Shreeja Mitra, and encouraged participants to connect literature with law, philosophy, and jurisprudence. The debate culminated in a reflective realization that perhaps no single conclusion exists, questioning the very notions of reality, history, and logic. The event was marked by enthusiastic participation, thoughtful dialogue, and strong faculty support, making it a meaningful and successful initiative by the Literary Committee.
