An expert session on the theme: Gender and Law was organized at Institute of Law, Nirma University on February 15, 2025. Dr. Lajwanti Chatani, Professor in Political Theory, Dept. of Political Science, Faculty of Arts, The M S University of Baroda was the resource person for the session. The lecture delved into the relationship between the law and the intricacies of gender dynamics. Students engaged in a robust deliberation on questions involving the gender dynamics and the legal jurisprudence, reflecting on the ethical responsibilities and the legislative intent behind the existing legal system and its issues. The lecture focused on and problematized issues of categorization used in theory and law to understand difference and sameness. She discussed the conceptual and theoretical issues involved in understanding and responding to the difference between gender and sex, the intended and the natural. The lecture ended with questions on how to “doing gender” is important for realizing justice for all and the means to work towards it. Prof. Nitesh Chaudhary Assistant Professor at the institute coordinated the event.
