Mr Avinash Jain, an illustrious alumnus of the Institute of Law, Nirma University, and presently an International Commercial Lawyer working as a legal counsel for Airbus did an interactive online session with Semester I students titled “Language, Communication, and Life Skills for Careers in Law” on Saturday, 30th November from 11 am-12 pm. Observing how communication is an integral part of the legal profession, Mr Jain emphasized the need for developing the presence of mind and an intelligently strategic approach to deal with challenges and unexpected situations in the legal career. While gaining mastery over language and communication skills is essential, emotional intelligence, assessing diverse scenarios, and deciding on the most apt response are also necessary. Mr. Jain kept the session interactive and made the students look at situations occurring in the workplace, especially in client interactions and the preparation of legal documents and contracts. The students were asked to analyze both spoken and written communication and suggest alternative strategies for better impact and efficacy and they took up the challenge enthusiastically. The session was a fine blend of theoretical and practical insights.
