The inaugural session of ILNU Model United Nations Conference, 2023 was organised by Institute of Law, Nirma University on April 1, 2023. The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Shri Bhupendra Bhai Patel, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat as Chief Guest at the ceremony. Dr Karsanbhai K Patel, President-Nirma University presided over the function. Shri KK Patel, Vice President-Nirma University and Dr Anup K Singh, Director General-Nirma University were the other dignitaries at the event.
Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel highlighted the importance of diplomacy and international relations in contemporary times. He stressed that Model UN is an excellent opportunity for students to engages into meaningful discussions and congratulated the institute of law in organizing the Model United Nations. He also praised the themes of the conference – One nation-one election, Data Privacy, Girls Education as very pertinent. Dr Anup K Singh in his address stated that it is very important for students not just to be professionally equipped but also be responsible citizens and Model United Nations helps them in debating and deliberating upon local, national and global issues.
Earlier, Prof (Dr) Madhuri Parikh, Dean and Director (I/c), Institute of Law delivered the welcome address. She traced the journey of the institute all these years and congratulated the students in bringing laurels to the institute in Alternate Dispute Resolution, Moot Courts, Model United Nations, Debates and many other competitions. Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. She conveyed that there are more than 400 participants spread across India at this Model UN.
Prof. Abhinav Kumar, Faculty Coordinator-MUN introduced the themes of the event. Pruthviraj Sinh Zala was the anchor at the event.
