The Institute of Law, Nirma University organised the inaugural ceremony of its flagship programme- International Teaching Month on February 13, 2023. The ceremony was graced with the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Judge Mel Flanagan, Former Circuit Judge USA and Adjunct Professor, University of Sarajevo, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina as Chief Guest. Professor (Dr) Ricky Lee, Intellectual Forum Senior Research Associate, Jesus College, University of Cambridge, England was the Guest of Honour at the event. Dr Anup K Singh, Director General, Nirma University presided over the function.
International Teaching Month is a flagship event hosted by the Institute every year, and is a reflection of the commitment of the Institute to Internationalisation, which is a strategy that integrates an international and intercultural vision into the curriculum of law. Throughout Internationalisation, the Institute has created a platform for collaboration of judges, diplomats, academicians, bureaucrats, educationists and practitioners from across the globe to engage with students and the larger academic community.
Institute is hosting over 40 eminent speakers from across the globe. The speakers belong to different parts of the world such as the United States of America, Peru, Hungary, UK, Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, Australia, Croatia, Bangladesh, and South Africa. Professors from renowned universities will be gracing the occasion. These include but are not limited to, Penn State Law; Hull University; University of Wisconsin; University of Piura; University of Szeged; Faculty of Law, Muni; University of Dhakha; Columbia University; Seattle University, University of Zagreb; Comillas University; and, University of Notre Dame among others.
The resource persons of the programme will share their scholarship and experiences on important topics such as animal law; freedom of speech; human rights; arbitration and dispute resolution; investment law; developments in international arbitration; analysis of constitutional law and rule of law; artificial intelligence and law; GAAR provisions and comparisons; principles of property tax; employment equity; German labour law; legal writing; and, Non-fungible tokens and copyright. Besides these sessions, the Institute is also offering short intensive courses on Trial Advocacy and Air and Space Law as well as gender justice and feminist jurisprudence.
