Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR), Institute of Law, Nirma University hosted a two-day “Workshop on Mediation: Theory and Practice” on November 23-24, 2024. The esteemed speakers at the workshop included Adv. Amar N. Bhatt, Adv. Hriday Buch, Adv. Priyadarshini A. Vakil, Adv. Nishant Lalakia, Adv. Manan Bhatt, and Adv. Archit Jani. The experts shared their extensive expertise in mediation and provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of mediation principles and practical techniques. The interactive sessions allowed students to engage deeply and gain insights into real-world dispute resolution challenges and strategies.
The workshop featured a series of insightful presentations and panel discussions aimed at exploring the true meaning of mediation. Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) where an impartial third party, known as a mediator, facilitates negotiations between disputing parties to help them reach a mutually acceptable agreement. It is a voluntary, confidential, and non-binding process unless an agreement is reached and formalized. The panelists enacted what mediation is and how it works. The second day transitioned into a Mediation Assessment Exercise, where participants applied the skills learned during the workshop. Students assumed the roles of mediators, clients, and counsels in realistic scenarios, demonstrating their grasp of mediation provisions and techniques. The workshop was a great opportunity for the students to learn from distinguished experts. Dr. Foram Patel, Head-Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR) at the Institute coordinated the event.
