XII National Students Conference

Institute of Law, Nirma University organised the Inaugural Session of XII edition of National Students Conference on February 16, 2023. Hon’ble Justice (Dr.) K. J. Thaker Chairperson, GSHRC was the Honorary Guest and Padma Shree Dr. Upendra Baxi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Maj. Gen. Nilendra Kumar, Military Veteran, Former JAG was the Guest of Honor at the conference. Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Gandhi- Professor, GNLU, Prof. Rhishikesh Dave-Dean, School of Law, Marwadi University, J. K. Bhatt IPS Officer (Retd.), Member, GSHRC, B. S. Upadhyay JMFC, Member, GSHRC were the other esteemed guests at the event.

The dignitaries congratulated the institute for organizing this conference on a very critical issue of humanitarian protection in the age of modern technology and global threats. It shall garner an understanding of the budding humanitarian law and human rights enthusiasts who will respond to these challenges of the future in real-time in the most efficient, expansive yet precise manner possible. Earlier, Dr. Madhuri A. Parikh Director and Dean I/c Institute of law, Nirma University delivered the welcome address. She stated that National Conference is an endeavor to better the lot of the War Refugees and to comprehend and address newly emerging trends and issues that, while they may not be as noticeable to the humanitarian and human rights community today, will undoubtedly eclipse it if left unchecked.

Ms. Anviksha Pachori Faculty Head, Centre for IHL & HR and event coordinator introduced the conference. The conference promises to be a momentous occasion where scholars, experts, and practitioners will converge to explore and dissect critical issues shaping our global landscape. The themes to be explored include: Humanitarian Protection amidst the Evolution of Modern Technology and Global Threats, Defending the Virtual Frontline: IHL in the Age of Cyber Warfare & AI, Nuclear Power Dynamics and their Impact on the Contemporary World Order., The Use of Data and Analytics in Humanitarian Decision Making and The Prevention of War Crimes and the Enforcement of Accountability within IHL.
